As of 01.04.09 we'll be paying another 8% for our new, UK supplied Panerai's. That makes a 104 £3600, against the new 312 at £4300.

I'm not convinced either are GVFM :(

Supposedly just the UK to bring us into line with the rest of Europe.

6300GBP for a Daylight has to be wrong :? They're 4600GBP (+8%=4968) and 5800EUR currently.

I know what youre saying but i got prices on a couple of models at the time and the difference was fairly consistant.

ie a Pam 88 was 5,200

I was prepared to buy the watch there and then if they came up with a sensible discount ie UK less 10 which should be easy given that uk has 15% vat, but not a sausage offered.

There are currently a couple of 251's 1-2 years old second hand advertised at 5,200 +

Obviously someone thinks the local market can bare the costs I saw the same thing over the last 12-18 months in Singapore with Rolex the only watch to have there.

Watched a Half gold daytona go from 4,500 to 7,000 over 18 months. Still kicking myself I didnt buy it. i didnt like the steel and gold face. This was a bit special price wise as i'd bought a few Omega etc in the same shop but the going rate around town then was +/- another 500 quid at the time so reasonable and this was in a reputable dealers.

Currency exchange seems to have turned the market on it's head. I never thought I'd buy a watch in UK in preference to Singapore or Dubai.

I found one in UK at 4600 so that was it done deal. Wont get to wear it until june unless I bring the wife out on a trip again.

Now to see if I can claim back the VAT and it would be a result.

Well i guess Dubai dwellers are wealthier than UK variants ;) The Current price list is clear so why premiums are being attached i wouldn't know, nor would i pay them. The UK has recently become a haven for foreign buyers, that's why our prices keep rising, 'we're' now costing the makers money based on the poor £. You'll find on threads here, stories of 20% discount in parts of Asia, but i guess that's all relative to the initial asking price.

Glad you got your deal and trust when you get to handle/wear it, it will be a smile inducer :)

One thing I learnt in Singapore was the discounts available on half gold models was very high everywhere. Stainless watches were discounted very little as were full gold.

15-25% was pretty much the norm on the Rolexes and sometime more if a model had been in for a while. One watch bucked this initailly and that was the ceramic GMT which wouldnt move much more than 10%.

I've had the price of the 219 confirmed at £3500 GBP....expensive but worth every penny imho. HOWEVER, not good value compared to what 3.5k buys you in other brands......

So £3500 is the 01.04.09 price i guess at give or take +8%. I'd like a destro and for me being a right wrist wearer, it would be most suitable. However, i simply cannot see the price difference for a 112/219 being remotely justifiable  so i refuse to seek one out. £600 more to turn things through 180 is outrageous.

I've been vocal elsewhere on the forum and in essence, i think my Panerai days are coming to an end. I'm in no rush to part with what i have but i'm going to struggle to persuade myself to dig as deep as required for anything more. Simple is best afaic and i have that 'base' covered. The more i think on it, £5K plus for the new 320GMT is very expensive, imo anyway.

I had a 233 in my hands last week but was struggling to accept it was £8K’s worth, hence I didn’t buy it.

The 'value' of a watch, or any item for that matter, is surely what it means to the owner.

Panerai prices, in terms of their equivalent in technical terms, are all insane on a purely financial level - there are even Rolexes cheaper than most Panerais...

However, the 'value' of the purchase is, to me at least, the rarity and the pleasure it brings ME. So, for the 219 to be £600 more expensive than a 112 just doesn't factor in. There were 2500 112's in the 'J' series, but only 400 219's...this, to me at least, makes it very unique and 'worth' the difference.

This said, I need something 'unique' and 'special' as previously stated, so after the 28 I've ordered, I probably won't get anything else Panerai until I find my grail - the 217 - and sell the rest...

Point taken re the personal satisfaction element but just because there's less of some models doesn't make them more costly to make imo. At least not £600 more in the case of 112 Vs 219. It doesn't require rocket science brains and resources to convert the dial position does it :(

Of course, anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay. With 26's changing hands at Blowers for £10-12K i do feel the world has gone very slightly mad

All IMO of course.

I agree, it doesn't 'cost' any more to move the dial round, but I think there's more than simply that to the rarity value IMO. It's obviously priced that way for a reason, isn't it.

The current situation is quite ridiculous, certainly with respect to the 26 - and it makes me wonder how many people actually buy for themselves? That might seem a strange statement, but I am convinced that a certain number of people buy for the "I've got one, and I'm going to show it off" more than for the sheer pleasure of owning a rare piece...but that's just my opinion 8-)

I'm sure you're right but what frustrates me all the more, are the buyers who are known well enough at the dealers to get the rare models, only to sell them on at a vastly inflated price, or is that i wonder unscrupulous dealers 'networking' :?:

as said earlier, I went for the destro purely on a wearability function.....worn on the L wrist, the destro crownguard doesn't dig in when dorsiflexion at the wrist occurs.
