i don't have an RG or WG, or platinum watch...but seeing a 231 up for sale (and thinking i'd rather have that than the 232 anyday) and looking at the various RG iwc, i'm just wondering would you let PASC or whomever do a complete polishing job on your watch realizing a layer of the metal is being taken off? or would you wear it real carefully...stupid question at 1:30am yah?

Probably the wrong person to ask as I tend to wear all my watches - not at once tho...  You gotta remember that these are SOLID RG, WG or Pl and as such, what difference would it make? It's not like you're going to take a top layer off to reveal another metal underneath, is it? I think I'd be inclined to wear the watch, then periodically have it polished... To this end, I'll use this post to send out a call : if there's anyone out there willing to give me a gold watch, just to test you understand....

I'm sorry but this to me is complete nonsense  Gold, in any shape or form, is not as hard as steel and as such, will get marked a lot easier. This is a FACT and if you buy a gold watch you have to expect this. If, like me, you actually WEAR your watch it will naturally get marked, unless you live in that parallel universe where scratches don't happen. Therefore, you must expect to re-polish the case from time to time. Polishing a gold case is not like taking an angle grinder to it - you're not going to take off millimeters of material, at best a few microns, and I for one would be able to live with that. Alternatively, do the polishing yourself and put the polishing cloth in a display cabinet, with nice little halogen lights, and a ticket saying "This cloth is worth Gold" Sorry mate, but I needed to get that out of my system - no offense meant

yep, that's why you'll never see me wearing gold...hurts enough seeing them polish my steel watches! a local watch repair place that's popular with the 'risti crowd did tell me that you'd have to polish the case for a month before you can tell a drop off in the weight of the case. not sure if that's just salesman talk or how much hyperbole there is in that statement. i didn't try because they wanted $225-$300 for a simple polishing
