Post subject:  Ferrari models.
So what's the deal with these? Why does Panerai still make them??

They seem to be the only models relatively available, and with discounts no less :shock:

Personally, they do nothing for me. No spirit like the rest of the Panerais.

Panerai make these models in accord with Ferarri - personally they don't do much for me either as they're really nothing 'special' - there are no in-house movements used, for example. Some have interesting casebacks (crystal etc) but they're all a bit too specific (as you'd expect really) for my liking.

there are actually a few in-house movement models.. such as the FER00012 and FER00007. They use the P2002 movement.

I think they are really nice watches, but I don't identify with the Ferrari brand like I do with the Panerai brand so they just don't hit me. I like the case shapes though. Prehaps if they were done with the dial style like a Panerai I would like them.

the yellow or red marks and hands stand out and speak to me. i like them, however the only problem is that i do not own a ferrari :lol:

I actually have considered buying one, but yes.. it almost does feel like one would have to own a Ferrari to wear one of these watches..

but isn't it strange that we do not feel the same obligation when considering breitling for bentley ?!!! :lol:

Strange you mentioned that Alien, I was thinking about the same thing. Actually, the status of Bentley to me represents not just a car, but a philosophy of fine craftsmanship, more of a title than a brand. Ferrari to me represents posers and speed freaks, wearing a Ferrari shirt, watch or key ring seems tasteless even if you have one. Not so the Bentley in my opinion, something very respectable and beyond reach about the name.

The same goes for BMW (my favorite actually), Mercedes and other over commercialized status symbols, I love both my BMWs but would never be caught dead with a BMW watch.

Yeah.. I think for some reason with the Bentley its not the same. I think it is also because the Bentley aspect of the watch is VERY subdued. Its more a Breitling than it is a Bentley watch. Not so with the Ferrari. Ferrari is the "bigger" brand so it gets the front and center.

I'm not sure which happened first - was it Ferrari who asked Panerai (being Italian) to design/manufacture a watch or was it Panerai who proposed the idea to Ferrari.

I saw three models in my AD today and sure, they're nice enough but, for me, they don't have the something special that some of the Panerai models have for me.

I feel sure that the 'bling' fact comes into play here too - and as I am a "VERY selfish, couldn't give a monkeys what people think I'm wearing" sort of person, wearing a Ferrari is pretty unlikely. This said, the engineering is top level, even I have to admit that...

i agree with Admin. i think as well it has to do with the branding and co-branding. in the case of bentley it is the secondary co-brand and it is subtle and this makes us feel that it is a more breitling watch that we all love.

Possibly also the fact that the clocks in the Bentley cars are made by Breitling - keeps the continuity going etc.

I have been in Ferraris. Over priced, over engineered soulless death wagons that they are. :|

Although I tease Ian via bashing Audi, I do like their cars as well as his not so favorite german brand BMW. The cars seem to have character and are well thought out.

Just thought it worth mentioning that whilst I'm not that keen on the watches themselves, I've fallen for the strap on the FER00022 GMT - soft black ribbed outer with a yellow inner. I'm not however getting the Ferrari deployant (there are limits!).

hi,i was looking at a fer00017 earlier today. find it to be nice and cool. its a gmt-alarm model,was planning to get it but after reading your posts and comments...am thinking if its worth it. i currently own a pam220 and planning to add another panerai watch.

Seems to be a common view, here and on Breitling Source.

I'm in the minority, I have the same problem with the Breitling for Bentley range that others in this thread have with the Ferrari range.

The F360's all had digital clocks mounted near the rear view mirror and I assume that all newer models do as well. Not sure if the F355 or earlier had any digital clocks.

me too, if you buy a breitling, you buy it not a bentley breitling! same with ferrari......or iws mercedes come to think

hell, next we'll have the timex ford range and the seiko toyotas! :lol:
