What is this 40MM worth used? Is it faked often? any tell tale signs?

interesting watch, only 500 ever made!

how do I authenticate it? Thanks for any help!

Given the fact that it's only just come out - 'K' series - I doubt it's been faked (yet!) much.

Based on the above, finding a second-hand (used) model will probably not be the easiest thing to do either...

It's priced at 6300$US - until the expected price hike - so if you do eventually find one, I wouldn't expect to pay more than about 5800$ if it's brand new, in box etc.

Oh and by the way, I don't know where you got 500 from - my source tells me there will only be 250...

Actually someone offered me 4200USD, local sale. Blue dial on a maroon strap, scratching my head on this one.....

What should I look for in a fake PAM?

Firstly check-out the seller. If he seems legit, then check what is offered with the watch - as it's so new, I can't really give you any advice more than looking at the Officine Panerai site and making sure the photos match the actual watch. As to what is supplied with it, well the 282 has the new strap changing system, so the tool will be supplied (not sure about the screwdriver) and verify that all the papers/stickers etc. match the codes on the watch back.
