I have gotten to the point of disliking the magnified date on Panerai so much,
that I have to take so many models off my list..that otherwise are really nice.
But now I favor mostly the Historics.

That date magnifier really ruins alot of the Contemporary automatics,
they should all go the way of 312 crystal.
It never really bothered me so much on a Rolex, but the inverted magnifier on Panerai is a noticeable deformity.
IMO..anyone else feel this strongly ?

I try to avoid any Pam with a cyclops as they look awful. Was thinking about a 243 a while back but it was like looking at a beautiful woman with a giant mole on her chin.....

And they always reflect light funny on them, making it look like there is a white mark on it.

Funny, I dont minfd the cyclops on any other watch brand but panerai.. I cant stand it! I would love to own a 240 or 243 but everytime I come close to buying one i get annoyed of that damn date. Seems like you gotta hold it at the right angle

I have to disagree..I was very close to buying a 104..now that I've actually gone to look at them in person a couple of times..I'm so glad I didn't jump the gun..in reality I wouldn't mind owning any Panerai..but if I'm choosing, I don't think I could overlook the weird cyclops crystal. I hear this all the time.. so it must be a pretty common complaint..... 111 all the way and save about $800..for a really nice strap collection :D

If the biggest problem in your world is the Panerai cyclops, then life is good.

It's all about choice and you have made yours, you find them unacceptable. However, banging on about it wont bring about any change from Panerai i'd wager. Sales continue to grow and there are now plenty of models to choose from, many without a cyclops as you know ;)

this is why they make so many different models. i looked at a few of the cyclops models and it reminded me of a rolex so i got the 328 instead

Some look OK with a MD some don't. Personally i think the 104 is the latter.

I don't love the cyclops, but it would not prevent me from owning a model with the Cyclops. The newer PAM's mostly don't have Cyclops anymore, so I think we might see a trend of declining cyclops models in the future. In fact, I'd wager there will be a cult of Cyclops owners that will raise the value of cyclops models in the future as they will become more rare in time.

Considering that the new models have not included the cyclops for the past 2 years, I think Panerai "gets it." The cyclops prevented me from buying a model sooner as well. I don't like them in general - some models/brands it doesn't bother me so much - like Rolex. I'm not crazy about it on a Rolex, but it seems to work.

I guess when a watch is 42, 44mm or bigger, it seems completely unnecessary.

My dad and some other older people have trouble reading the smaller characters.. they find it more convenient to have a magnified date.
