The 026 was an A series and as such has a tritium lume....how good a lume are the later luminova ones as clearly that is what anything I buy now will have......You could almost read at night by the tritium lume!

any thoughts folks?

Luminova (or more accurately 'Super Luminova') even fully charged-up won't last as long, or 'burn' as brightly, as a Tritium lume.

However, I tend to read using electric lights (or candles if my electricity bills continue to increase like they have been ;) ) so I'm not too bothered on that score.

The older Tritium paste had a nasty habit of drying out and flaking, which Panerai 'cure' by changing the dial on older models to a more recent Luminova equivalent, if and when the watch is sent in for a service. This can be annoying as it degrades the 'originality' of the watch. I think the shelf-life is shorter than Luminova too - my old Rollie Sub looks great in daylight, but the 'T' dial don't glow no more  - then again, it is 30 years old.

Interestingly this subject is currently under discution on a French Panerai forum, from which I 'stole' this graph. (Many thanks paneristi.fr)
