As a newbie to the brand I have a croc strap that says "Made in Austria" but otherwise seems legit, is that accurate? Thanks!

Genuine Panerai straps are made by Hirsch in Austria, so you're part way there. There are sooo many fakes though, that correct markings alone are sadly not enough to be 100% sure of authenticity.

Looking at your forum name, if you bought a PAM 48 which is the smaller case, i don't think the narrower 40mm case sized strap is faked so much, if at all?

Pictures would help produce an informed answer ;)
