Forgive the tedious question please and i know ultimately it has to be my decision but i have a 270 about to land at my AD and to compensate for the grief with the recent aborted sale, the replacement 270 is offered at a very attractive price.

That said, it's still an expensive piece and the more i look at pictures of these two options, the more i question the price differential. At retail, the 270 is £4600 more than the 320 and apart from the power reserve, wasted on an auto imo and a domed crystal, there isn't much that's visually different, indeed the GMT hand is easier to read on the 320.

I could buy another Panerai with the cash difference, so i'd value the opinions of others

I agree completely on the power reserve observation but I think the domed crystal is something really special.

Whether it is a few grand special is debatable but never forget the quote

some people swear by the domed crystal...personal preference, i don't like the domed crystal. i would be ALL over the 320 and the extra cash i'm saving. i would also take the 233 before the 270 also because i like the full view of the movement...so

320>233>270 (and this is before figuring in the extra cash you're saving).

This, I feel, is one of the more important considerations, particularly considering the frequency of your travelling betwen Brighton and Hove...

Seriously, if you're using this as one of your criteria for choice, then you just don't want this watch.

As for the domed crystal - there are two reasons why the 320 (or any of the P.900x range) don't have the same crystal - the first is primarily down to COST. The second is that Panerai can 'offer' a greater depth (300m) with the flat crystal, but I personally think this is more marketing than anything else and that the prime reason is as above... You either like it or you don't, I couldn't agree more, but it DOES go with the the 1950 style case.

The power reserve/automatic watch is another little quirk that I (again, personally) really like - it doesn't happen with many watches, but I like it when it's really different. As it happens, I do wear other watches - and the huge power reserve lets me wear them a few days, then come back to the 270 and it's still going...this is PERSONAL, but I like it.

I'm sorry BAZ, and you don't want this watch - get a 240 - it's got everything you'll ever need...oh, just sold one? Ooooop's....

sb agreed on the cool PR aspect of an auto watch. these days i could not wear my iwc port for a few days and know it's still ticking when i get back to it...very convenient!

as for panerai i like mine clean with a sandwich dial...and the 240 cyclop . so it's settled we're picking up the 320?

The 320 looks great, but (for reasons I can't quite seem to put my finger on) the 270 looks just that bit more special to me.

Why the caustic opener? A GMT function may be highly relevant in my life I don't know how a 240 crept into the equation either, or did i miss something? I thought this was a place to seek friendly views and opinions, suddenly that seems not to be the situation and i don't understand the need for sarcasm either Should i assume you're a world traveler to warrant your 270? My point was, the 320's GMT hand is more legible, not that i needed a GMT feature

I'm fully aware of the differences between a 270 and 320 and was soliciting opinions if the price difference was considered worth it. I didn't invite a Panerai specification lesson; i'm pretty swatted up in that area. I've owned a domed crystal watch (212) so have that experience too. Power reserve issues, if relevant, are easily solved by a watch winder, are they not?

I'm sorry you understood my comments as 'caustic' - certainly wasn't my intention. (As it happens I 'hide' the gmt hand on my 270 when I'm not travelling)

I digress - in my opinion, the questions you asked suggest (to me) that you don't want this watch - it's as simple as that. The price difference wouldn't mean anything to you if you really wanted a 270 - it's an extremely expensive watch, again, in my opinion.

The reference to the 240 was based on what you've previous mentioned as options that you like : titanium, flat crystal and auto.
