Anyone notice the subtle change in the dial color on the N series 312's? I have an L series and compared it to the N series at one of the boutiques and noticed that the new dial color is more gray than black. The bezel around the case back is also brushed instead of polished. The slight change looks really good and seems to provide a little more contrast against some of the straps.

I have a series N and yes, you are right. The back bezel is not polished and not that you mentioned it, the face is not 'black'.... hmmmmm

Wow, and i thought i could be a bit anal over detailing :o

imo and fwiw, i doubt the dial is a specific factory spec change, They use more than one supplier for things like dials and they may simply have changed sources for a batch and the 'black' shade is slightly different. I once owned two 232's and the dials were a noticably different shade of brown and only within a few 000's of each other in number. As to the polished edges of the case back, given it's what, 1mm tall? i would live with that or just have the existing one brushed out.

To lose money on the first purchase, knowing i would then lose money on it's replacement i don't regard as desirable ;)

Mmmhhhmmmmm

Perhaps this is like the automotive industry where they do mid-life or end of life updates to sell a few more before they retire the line. I don't know when that would be but I don't think they will make this piece forever. One would think Panerai will eventually drop a line or two. I can't imagine it would be profitable to make so many different models.

Seems to be the case. That's what I was told by someone at one of the Boutiques.
